Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (QCF)

What is this qualification?

 

This is a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ). It is designed for learners who currently work, or want to work, in construction. The qualification meets the requirements for learners to achieve a formal knowledge based qualification in order to apply for the CSCS UK Ltd Green Card. Successful completion of this qualification and the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test will enable the learner to access construction sites in the UK as a non-skilled worker. This qualification is supported by Construction Skills and was developed in conjunction with CITB and CSCS UK Ltd.

 

Who is this qualification for?

 

This qualification is for:

 

learners who already work in construction

learners who want to work in construction

learners who need to meet the requirements for the CSCS UK Ltd Green Card in order to access construction sites in the UK as a non-skilled worker.

 

 

What does it cover?

 

This qualification covers the knowledge of the principles of risk assessments, the importance of safe manual handling, working safely at height, the risks to health within a construction environment and the importance of working around plant and equipment safely.

Learning outcomes for HSCE1/01

 

The learner will:

 

1. Know the principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety at work.

2. Know the importance of safe manual handling in the workplace.

3. Know the importance of working safely at height in the workplace.

4. Know risks to health within a construction environment.

5. Know the importance of working around plant and equipment safely.

 

 

How is the qualification delivered?

 

This qualification is a knowledge based qualification. Therefore it is expected that it is delivered within the context of an appropriate teaching and learning environment.

 

How is the qualification assessed?

 

This qualification is assessed by completion of an assessment booklet, which will provide the evidence of the learner’s portfolio of evidence. The assessment booklet has been provided by EAL.

As a result of successful completion of the qualification, delegates will receive certification from EAL Limited (Excellence, achievement and learning)
