Product Information

brewing airlock is a fermentation device that allows gases to escape from a container while preventing air or other contaminants from entering the fermentation vessel.

Home brew fermentation airlocks to fit rubber and cork bungs and grommets

Bubbler Airlock With Red Dust Caps

The air lock is a plastic or glass tube filled with liquid, such as water, which creates a barrier that prevents air from flowing back into the container.

As gas produced during fermentation bubbles through the liquid in the airlock, it indicates that fermentation is taking place.

To set up an air lock for brewing, follow these steps:

  1. Fill the airlock with a sanitiser solution like Star San or Iodophor.
  2. Insert the airlock into the hole on top of the fermenting vessel, ensuring a snug fit.
  3. Fill the fermenting vessel with your wort or beer and seal the lid or cover.
  4. As fermentation begins, carbon dioxide will be produced and escape through the airlock, creating bubbles in the sanitiser solution.
  5. Check the airlock regularly to ensure that it remains filled with sanitiser solution, as the liquid can evaporate over time.
  6. Once fermentation is complete, remove the airlock and sanitise it before using it again for your next batch of beer.
